Outcome 1: Be compassionate and kind.

  1. Be aware of and appreciate one’s similarities and differences with others.

  • MAST 7/8: By June 2021, 65% of students will participate in the kindness challenge and complete the school survey.

Action Plan

Montessori

  • K/1 teachers will use the regular SEL lessons to teach and practice social skills throughout the year. 
  • Lower Elementary will use projects to teach and observe collaborative work skills. 
  • Upper Elementary will use the Growth Mindset model and goal setting forms throughout the 2020 - 2021 school year.  

MAST 7/8

  • School Wide climate survey on kindness

Lower Elementary 

  • By 2023, students in 2nd-3rd grade will increase their RIT scores on the MAP assessment by 5%.

Upper Elementary

  • By 2023, students in 4th-6th grade will increase their RIT scores on the MAP assessment by 5%.

MAST 7/8

  • By 2023, students in MAST grades 7 and 8 will meet their individual growth goal. 
  • By 2023, 70% or more of students taking the SBA will demonstrate proficiency on the math SBA. 

ELA Goals
 
K/1

  • By June of 2021, 80% of Kindergarten students will write beginning sounds to pictures.  1st grade will include blends and digraphs.

Lower Elementary 1-3

  • By 2023, 75% or more of 2-3 grade students taking the MAP assessment will make 5% growth.

Upper Elementary 4-6

  • By 2023, 75% or more of 4-6th grade students taking the MAP assessment will make 5% growth. 

MAST 7/8th Grade 

  • By 2023, 75% or more of students taking the SBA will demonstrate proficiency and improved performance relative to proficiency in writing and revising narrative, informational/explanatory, and/or opinion/argumentative paragraphs.

Upper Elementary

Action Plan

K/1

  • K/1 students will engage in word problem solving using actions, objects or drawings on a regular basis.  
  • K/1 students will use Words Their Way sorting and words study activities to develop phonics and spelling skills.
  • K/1 students will study biomes integrated with language development. 
  • Students identified as below grade level in reading will work with the Washington Reading Corp member to increase reading skills.  

Lower Elementary 2-3

  • Students identified as being in need (MAP score) of additional support will receive additional math or reading lessons using focus groups, teacher groups, parent groups, and/or peer groups.

Upper Elementary 4-6

  • Students in Upper Elementary Montessori scoring two or below on the MAP math or reading will receive additional math or reading lessons using focus groups, teacher groups, parent groups, and/or peer groups.
  • All students in grades 4 - 6 will receive Geometric Measurement instruction and explorations.  

MAST 7/8th grade 
ELA/Social Studies:

  • Teachers will provide students with a cornucopia of opportunities to write, edit, revise, improve, and publish narrative, informational/explanatory, and/or opinion/argumentative pieces of writing.
  • Students will experience direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice opportunities from their teachers across a plethora of parameters within the context of creating multitudinous writing responses.
  • Genres of writing will be assigned and practiced in relation to grade level CCSS.  In addition, SBAC performance scores and individual developmental levels of students will be considered to determine where students may need additional scaffolding to buttress the mastery of their skills.

Math: 

  • Students will demonstrate a working math vocabulary when speaking and listening to math.   
  • We will give a pre- and post-assessment with math vocabulary embedded in the problems. We will monitor student growth in this area by asking students to use the correct mathematical terms when speaking about math and I will confer with specific students as the need arises. 
  • We will meet as a team to reflect on our practice, conferring with each other with about our successes and failures, making adjustments as necessary. We will present methods for building mathematical vocabulary as a continuum across grade levels. 

Science:

Outcome 3: Advocate for the social, physical and mental wellness of themselves and others and be hopeful about the future.

7-8th Grades

  • Students will learn and practice writing and sending appropriate email communication to their teachers after participating in a lesson “Email Communication Training” about this skill.

Goal

K-6

  • By May 2021 K-3 students will progress at least 2 levels on objective 10 A Engaging in Conversations using the WA KIDS assessment.
  • By May 2021 4-6 students will be able to make an effort to perceive others point of view and emotions as measured by a student created rubric.

7-8

  • By June 2021 80% of students who participated in the lesson on emails will send an appropriate email to the teacher. 

Action Plan

K-3 students will have regular opportunities for sharing and circle discussions to develop communication skills.

4/6:  Students will study 1 trait each month from the Habits of Mind curriculum and create a self-assessment  portfolio of their understanding and abilities for each of the 8 traits.

7-8

  • Students will participate in email communication training and practice the skill.
  • Teachers will provide SEL activities during weekly advisory.

Outcome 4: Have the skills, knowledge and courage to identify and confront personal, systemic and societal bias.

  1. Develop an appreciation of world cultures, which may include the understanding of the basic structure of another world language.

MAST 7/8

  • Students will evaluate the significance and dependability of information by participating in a lesson entitled,  “Common Sense Media” taught by their teacher. 

Goal

Montessori K-6

  • By May, 2021 80% of  K-6 Students will be able to identify the Fundamental Needs of Humans in their own culture and other cultures around the world.  

MAST 7/8

  • By June 2021 80% of students who participate in the lesson will be able to correctly identify whether a source is credible with 80% accuracy.

Action Plan

  • Students of all levels will use the Waseca Biomes and Economic Geography materials to explore and learn about cultures around the world.  In Upper Elementary students will explore cultures in different historical periods.
  • Students will participate in a “Common Sense Media - Digital Citizenship News and Media Literacy” lesson and correctly identify credibility of source

    • By May 2021, 80% of the Upper Elementary will have finished their focus group projects and evaluate their projects.  
  • MAST
    • By May 2021, 80% of students will complete their integrated projects and passion projects.

Action Plan

  • K/1: 
    • Teachers will guide students in goal setting and tracking progress throughout the year. 
  • 2/3: 
    • Students will be given the opportunity to use all school resources and home resources to complete their project goals.  They will have teacher support in creating teamwork goals and self-evaluating their project and teamwork.
  • Upper Elementary:
    • Upper Elementary students will be provided multiple opportunities (focus groups) to select which high interest area learning they want to explore.  Then students will select how they want to demonstrate learning (portfolio, presentation, etc.).

Goal

  • K-3: 
    • By May, 2021, 80% of K-3 students will grow at least 2 levels on WAKids Objective 3a:  Balances needs and rights of self and others.
  • Upper Elementary:
    • By June, 2021, 90% of Upper Elementary students will have participated in water quality testing, 
  • MAST:
    • By June of 2021, all MAST students will participate in restoring the ORLA prairie and teaching other ORLA students about the importance of the prairie. 

Action Plan

  • K-1: 
    • Kindergarten teachers will provide opportunities throughout the year to share, cooperate and work together on projects and activities. 
  • 2-3:
    • The students of lower elementary will work in teams to create their visual arts and complete research needed to share their presentations with the community.
  • 4-6:
    • Upper Elementary will have a presentation by Jeff at Killer Whale Tales, water quality, salmon discoveries, and salmon dissections to create awareness (Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience MWEE). 
  • MAST: 
    • Students will learn about native prairie lands, work on the ORLA prairie and teach other about the importance of prairie lands.
