Outcome 1: Be compassionate and kind.

  1. Be aware of and appreciate one’s similarities and differences with others.
  2. Listen well and cooperate with others.
  3. Demonstrate awareness of one’s own thoughts and emotions and how they impact behavior.
  4. Express emotions, thoughts and impulses in positive and beneficial ways.
  5. Resolve conflicts and repair relationships.

Goal

80% of students are able to demonstrate and name actions at recess that show compassion and kindness by May 2023. By May of 2023, student responses in the category of Supportive Relationships will rise from 78% in the fall to 85% in the spring, and responses in the category of Positive Feelings will rise from 73% in the fall to 85% in the spring as measured by the Panorama survey. 

Action Plan

  • Each classroom teacher will teach the Second Step curriculum in its entirety.
  • Staff will use "Random Acts of Kindess" website to help students generate ideas for actions that are compassionate and kind.
  • Counselor and support staff including paraeducators will hold both targeted small group social skills sessions and drop-in sessions for lunch buddies focusing on interpersonal skills and compassion.  
  • All staff members will use ”Bear Paw” tickets to reinforce kind/compassionate behavior in the school

Outcome 2: Have the academic and life skills to pursue their individual career, civic and educational goals.

  1. Read, write and speak effectively for a wide range of purposes, including the interpretation and analysis of both literary and informational texts.
  2. Know and apply mathematics to a level of fluency that ensures a broad range of post-secondary opportunities and career choices.
  3. Use analytic and scientific principles to draw sound conclusions.
  4. Analyze multiple causal factors that shape major events in history.
  5. Exit with a personalized post-secondary transition plan for work, career and/or college, and complete the first steps toward achieving post-secondary goals before graduation.
  6. Develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines, and engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.
  7. Problem solve using both creative and critical thinking skills.
  8. Demonstrate continuous growth across the disciplines to meet or exceed academic learning standards and work toward graduation.

Metric

Wonders weekly and unit assessments. MAP reading and math assessments. Bridges pre-and post- unit assessments, and Number Corner assessments. FOSS science assessments and the 5th-grade science MSP exam will also be used.

Goal

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS ACHIEVEMENT GOALS:
  • Kindergarten: By February 2023, 80% of kindergarten students will correctly identify and write half of the upper and lower case letters, identify letter sounds, begin to write words phonetically, and read 20 high-frequency words, ask and answer questions related to a given topic, as measured by district provided assessments.
  • First Grade: By February 2023, 80% of first grade students will show comprehension by identifying main idea and 2 details after listening to or reading a non-fiction story.
  • Second Grade: By February 2023, 75% of second-grade students will read an end of the year Wonders passage with a fluency score of 72 WCMP and 96% accuracy.
  • Third Grade: By February 2023, 80% of students in grade 3 will meet or exceed 10% growth or reach grade-level proficiency as measured by the Wonders Oral Reading Fluency (92 WPM). Students will also increase their STAR reading test score by 4 months growth or reach grade level proficiency. 
  • Fourth Grade: By June 2023, 80% of students in grade 4 will meet or exceed 10% growth (from their current status) or reach grade-level proficiency as measured by the Wonders Oral Reading Fluency (123 WPM) and Wonders Comprehension Assessment score (75% or better).
  • Fifth Grade: By June 2023, 80% of students in grade 5 will achieve grade-level proficiency for reading fluency using the Wonders oral reading fluency placement and diagnostic test.  That goal is 139 WCPM (word count per minute).
MATH ACHIEVEMENT GOALS:
  • Kindergarten: By February 2023, 80% of kindergarten students will be able to recognize, write, compare and sequence numbers 0-10, as measured by Bridges assessments and teacher observations. 80% of students will be able to count to 30 by 1s and 10s starting at any number.
  • First Grade: By February 2023, all first graders will be able to count and write numbers to 100 starting at any number.  They will also count by 2's to 20 and by 5's and 10's to 100. This will be measured by an oral and written counting assessment.
  • Second Grade: By February 2023, 75% of 2nd-grade students will demonstrate understanding of and proficiency with OSD critical standards, as measured by Bridges assessments.
  • Third Grade: By February 2023, 80% of students in grade 3 will meet or exceed 10% growth or reach grade-level proficiency as measured by Bridges Unit 3 multi-digit addition and subrtraction assessment. (score 75% or better on the Post assessment).
  • Fourth Grade: By June 2023, 80% of students in grade 4 will meet or exceed 10% growth (from their current status) or reach grade-level proficiency as measured by the Pre and Post tests for Bridges Units of study. 
  • Fifth Grade: By June 2023, 70% of students in grade 5 will show growth or reach grade-level proficiency on Bridges Unit 2 - Adding & Subtracting Fractions as measured by the Bridges Pre-Test and Post-Test.
SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT GOALS:
  • Kindergarten: By February 2023, 80% of kindergarten students will be able to observe, record and share scientific discoveries as measured by formative assessments.
  • First Grade: By February 2023, , 90% of first grade students will be able to correctly sequence the life cycle of a plant as measured by a formative assessment.
  • Second Grade: By February 2023, 80% of 2nd-grade students will show an understanding of key concepts taught in science kits, as measured by formative assessments.
  • Third Grade: By February 2023, 80% of students in grade 3 will demonstrate proficiency in scientific concepts as measured by teacher observations and science notebooks.
  • Fourth Grade: By June 2023, 80% of students in grade 4 will understand scientific explanations as evidenced in reflective thinking and articulation shown in science notebooks.
  • Fifth Grade: By June 2023, after completing four teacher-guided observations in their decomposition data sheets, 80% of students will achieve a score of Proficient in note-taking by independently completing at least 8 more observations and variable change notes.


Action Plan

Grade level teams will teach the provided Wonders, Bridges and FOSS science curricula. Additionally, teams will use Wonders and Bridges intervention materials when seeking to support learners who are struggling.
Grade level teams will meet weekly to examine student assessment data to identify missing skills and the students who are missing these skills. The assessments provided within the curricula will be used to determine student learning (both weekly and unit assessments). Teams will then work collaboratively to address these needs of students across the grade level.

Outcome 3: Advocate for the social, physical and mental wellness of themselves and others and be hopeful about the future.

  1. Communicate effectively.
  2. Develop knowledge and skills to have healthy eating habits, have a healthy body image and access reliable health information and services.
  3. Be physically active and see athletics and exercise as health-enhancing behaviors.
  4. Understand and apply principles of sound mental and emotional health and learn to identify signs of emotional health concerns such as depression, anxiety and suicidal thinking in self and others.
  5. Understand how and when to seek supportive mental and emotional health resources for self and others.
  6. Cultivate healthy relationships that honor each person's personal preferences and boundaries.
  7. Identify and develop personal strengths and interests.
  8. Develop the skills and habits to assess the role of technology and social media in their lives and distinguish between healthy and harmful use.

Self regulation questionaire, and Panorama SEL student survey.

Goal

80% of students can verbally express and demonstrate at least one self regulation strategy by February 2023, when asked by a teacher. By May of 2023, student responses in the category of Emotional Regulation will rise from 50% in the fall to 70% in the spring as measured in the Panorama survey.


Action Plan

  • Teachers will teach and use self-regulation strategies (zones of regulation, calm down corner, relaxation techniques, positive self-talk, classroom meetings, Second Step lessons/ language) in the classroom
  • Behavior Technicians will continue to use CICO (check-in, check out) system

Outcome 4: Have the skills, knowledge and courage to identify and confront personal, systemic and societal bias.

  1. Develop an appreciation of world cultures, which may include the understanding of the basic structure of another world language.
  2. Be well versed in local, national and world history and understand how prejudice, racism and xenophobia have contributed to conflict.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to recognize that biased attitudes expressed consistently over time gradually distort perceptions until stereotypes and myths about people different from oneself are accepted as reality.
  4. Empower themselves to interrupt discriminatory remarks and attitudes.
  5. Evaluate the significance and dependability of information used to support positions.
  6. Analyze the validity, reliability and credibility of information from a variety of primary and secondary sources while researching an issue or event.

Metric

Music assessments specific to multicultural celebrations and acknowledgement.

Goal

100% of students will participate in school-based events which highlight various world cultures by Spring 2023, and 80% of students will score 'proficient' on music-related world culture assessments.

Action Plan

  • Equity Teams meet routinely throughout the year, and will curate a "cultural calendar" of events.
  • Teachers provide opportunities for class discussions when events arise in the community related to major news events and will communicate topics of conversations with families.
  • Continue to diversify library collections to better represent all students and cultures. 
  • Music Class
    • Focus on standards which involve world cultures 
    • Creating projects/concert for students to learn about different cultures
  • Multicultural Event
    • Organize an event in May to celebrate World Culture Day

Reflection activity at conclusion of "Explore Your Passion Week."

Goal

100% of students will take part in "Explore Your Passion Week," and will complete reflection activity at conclusion of event.

Metric

Exit tickets completed by students at the end of both water quality testing events. 

Goal

  • In partnership with South Sound Green, 100% of 5th-grade students will participate in water quality testing both in the fall of 2022 and the spring of 2023.

Action Plan

  • Carmen Kardokus, Science TOSA and South Sound Green staff members will collaborate to bring quality testing experiences to each building. 
  • Teachers will teach from the new FOSS kits
